Breitbart News reports that after news leaked that President-Elect Donald Trump would be offering the position of head of the Environmental Protection Agency to a prominent climate change denier, Trump then met with Oscar-winning movie star Leonardo DiCaprio and promised him that he would watch his climate change documentary.
In what appears to be a strong indicator of Trump’s determination to undo much of President Obama’s efforts to combat climate change, Trump has selected Scott Pruitt, the Oklahoma attorney general and a close ally of the fossil fuel industry, to run the Environmental Protection Agency, the New York Times reports.
DiCaprio, along with Terry Tamminen, who is the CEO of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and who was formerly the secretary of California’s Environmental Protection Agency, met with Trump on Wednesday to discuss how the economy could benefit from jobs focused on preserving the environment.
“Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation” Tamminen said in a statement to the Associated Press.
DiCaprio, known for his strong support of efforts to fight climate change, recently released a documentary entitled, “Before the Flood” about the perils the world faces as it struggles to deal with climate change. Having previously presented a copy of the film to Ivanka Trump, DiCaprio presented a copy to President-Elect Trump as well at their meeting at Trump Tower on Wednesday.
Breitbart reports that a person who was “familiar with the meeting but not authorized to speak publicly about it” said that Trump promised to watch it.
Breitbart also reported that Tamminen said that Trump was receptive and suggested they meet again next month.
